2-cell embryo

SEM of a stage 2, 2-cell embryo in vitro, (original magnification x1000). The zona pellucida was chemically removed. The surface of the intact blastomere on the left has numerous short microvilli. The right blastomere was freeze fractured revealing its internal structure. A small, round second polar body is present at the top of the left blastomere.
