cranial accessory nerve (CN XI), facio-vestibulocochlear neural crest (CN VII and CN VIII), glossopharyngeal neural crest (CN IX), middle cerebral plexus, otocyst, posterior cerebral plexus, rhombencephalon (hindbrain), rhombocoele, rhombomere 1, rhombomere 2, rhombomere 3, rhombomere 4, rhombomere 5, rhombomere 6, spinal accessory nerve (CN XI), trigeminal neural crest (CN V), vagal neural crest (CN X)

A section through the rhombencephalon, proximal part of the cranial neural crests and middle of the otocyst.

Observe:
1. The pre- and postotic parts of the rhombencephalon in longitudinal section.
2. The close relation of the otocyst to the rhombencephalon.
3. Rhombomeres 1 through 6 in the wall of the rhombencephalon.
4. The four cranial neural crests (two rostral to the otocyst and two caudal), which will form cranial nerves V, VII, VIII, IX and X.
5. The close relation of the facioacoustic crest to the rostral side of the otocyst.
