anterior cerebral plexus, cranial accessory nerve (XI), edge of dorsal aorta, geniculate preganglion (CN VII), hypoglossal nerve (XII), junction of primary head vein and precardinal vein, maxillomandibular part of trigeminal neural crest, mesocoele (midbrain ventricle), notochord, occipital dermatome, occipital myotome, ophthalmic part of trigeminal neural crest, pharyngeal arch 1, pharyngeal arch 2, pharyngeal groove 1, pharyngeal groove 2, placode 7, region of cephalic flexure, region of cervical flexure, spinal accessory nerve (CN XI), vagal neural crest (CN X), vertebral artery

A section through the mesencephalon and rhombencephalon at the cephalic and cervical flexures, respectively.

Observe:
1. The edge of the notochord and dorsal aortas.
2. The junction of the geniculate preganglion with placode VII on the second branchial arch.
3. The junction of the primary head vein with the precardinal vein.
4. The occipital myotomes and their close association with the hypoglossal nerve that will innervate the tongue musculature.
5. The dorsal part of branchial arches 1 and 2.
