Blastomere of an 8-cell embryo

TEM of a blastomere of a stage 2, 8-cell embryo in vitro (original magnification x7,000) 72 hours post-insemination. The cytoplasm contains mitochondria which are less dense than those in earlier embryos. The nucleus has clumps of heterochromatin and a reticular nucleolus.

G = juxtanuclear Golgi complex
