Mitochondria in an early stage 2 embryo

Very high power TEM of an early stage 2 embryo in vivo, (original magnification x40,000). Mitochondria (M) are rounded with peripherally located cristae. Small vesicles of the smooth endoplasmic reticulum are in close association with the mitochondria. Larger free vesicles (V) of the endoplasmic reticulum are also present.
